Abstract
The mitochondrial and cytoplasmatic fractions of serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) were studied by electrophoretic and chromatographic methods in patients with acute hepatitis. The appearance in the serum of the mitochondrial fraction of SGOT is in good correlation with the severity of the acute phase of the hepatitis, but it lasts only for few days. The diagnostic and prognostic value of the presence in the serum of the mitochondrial fraction of this enzyme is discussed.
