In anaesthetized cats the impulse activity of single cardiac vagal efferent fibers isolated from the cardiac branch of the right vagus was reflexly reduced or abolished by the stimulation of the afferent fibers running in the cardiac sympathetic nerves. The same stimulus increased the discharge of single efferent sympathetic fibers directed to the heart. These responses may have a synergistic effect upon cardiac function.
