Abstract
The authors present a rare case of malformation of the areola and nipple which, after a survey of the literature, is classified as intrareolar polythelia. The malformation caused deep concern in the patient from the cosmetic point of view and she longed for a normal appearance together with the preservation of the function of every single component of her breast. Surgical correction was achieved through the isolation of the subcutaneous pedicle of all the nipple units misplaced in the areola, which were then approximated and sutured in the centre of the areola itself; a small flap of areolar skin was then obtained to cover the lateral surface of the new nipple. The result is excellent and the patient is perfectly happy with it.
