The authors present 2 synchronized, computed apparatuses for the functional evaluation of gait. These apparatuses yield the values of the time sequence of stride and the curves of the angular displacement of the hip, knee and ankle of both legs. The method was used in a group of 10 patients suffering from hemiplegia consequent to an acute cerebrovascular episode, during motor rehabilitation. During hospitalization at the Rehabilitation Center (up to 4 months after stroke time) the functional parameters were improved steadily, while a slight regression was observed at 18 months post-stroke. The angular displacement curves accurately showed the motor pattern typical of hemiplegic patients. Their most important characteristics (knee hyperextension, impaired dorsiflexion of foot) were basically unchanged throughout the study.
