A derivatization procedure suitable for HPLC analysis of clenbuterol

Abstract

A precolumn derivatization method has been set up for the analysis of Clenbuterol by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV detection. After preliminary studies, N, N-dimethylaniline was chosen as reagent against Clenbuterol diazonium salt to form a diazocompound. The final derivative was separated on a reversed-phase column using a phosphate buffer-acetonitrile mixture as eluent. The reproducibility was increased using a compound homologous to Clenbuterol as the internal standard. The method was applied to the analysis of Clenbuterol in calfurine.
