This paper describes a magnetometer for temporal and spatial analysis of fields generated by eddy currents in superconducting magnets, mainly caused by switching gradients. The magnetic field distortions are measured from FID signals acquired and multi-exponentially fitted. The signals are taken from an array of small probes spatially distributed and switched by the magnetometer. An example is given using a 2 T horizontal superconducting magnet and showing the residual defects of an active-shielded gradient coil system.
