A new cone-beam computed tomography system for dental applications with innovative 3D software

Abstract

Recently cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has become an important image technique for dento-maxilla facial applications In this work we present a prototype of CBCT scanner for dental imaging and its dedicated 3D software. The purpose of our research is to analyze every single part of a CBCT scanner: acquisition, mechanical design, reconstruction algorithms and 3D visualization. A new customized reconstruction algorithm was developed to obtain high performances in terms of speed and quality in relation to the digital acquisition system. We started also a work on the 3D graphic software to create a powerful tool for novice users but also with advanced functions for expert users.
