Age-dependency of splenic dysfunction in sickle cell anaemia

Abstract

Splenic function was measured in adult patients with sickle cell anaemia by using a simple, non-isotopic method. A significant direct correlation between age and splenic dysfunction was found. This progressive age-dependent impairment of splenic function may have important clinical implications.
