Allergic contact dermatitis caused by immersion oil used for microscopy is a recently recognized phenomenon. We report a case with characteristic findings of periorbital erythema and oedema in a biologist working in a phisiopathology laboratory. Positive patch test responses to epoxy resin and immersion oil were noted. This is a contact allergic reaction, possibly airborne, to epoxy resins present in immersion oil used for microscopy. To our knowledge, this is the first case reported in Italy.
