Abstract
A review is given as regards the research on amyloidosis of the islets of Langerhans, after which the information obtained from a study of a random sample of 200 autopsies is described. Special attention was paid to the correlation between islet amyloidosis, diabetes mellitus and aging. It appeared that a close relation exists between the general process of aging and insular amyloid deposits; diabetes mellitus would then occur, increasing the amount of the amyloid deposits only in patients of a more advanced age.
