Abstract
The epidemiology of multiple sclerosis in the province of Messina was studied. No significant differences of MS prevalence were found between the various geographical areas and between country and town. The prevalence rate for MS on 'prevalence day' was 12.6 cases/100,000 inhabitants; 0.83 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants per year were observed for the period 1960-73. Such findings were compared with those observed by other authors in provinces in Northern Italy.
