Abstract
An alternative application of the tailored myocutaneous pedicle flap of latissimus dorsi muscle is presented. Latissimus dorsi muscle has been divided into two portions, respecting blood and nerve supply. The former has been used to cover a large skin defect after spine operation in a patient affected by spina bifida, the latter was left in place to avoid losening of the muscle function in change of position, that is essential in paraplegic patients. This application has led to the successful covering and safeguard of instrumentation and could be an alternative use of myocutaneous flap of latissimus dorsi muscle.
