Abstract

To evaluate the influence of AEDs on ovary function, we determined follicular and luteal levels of sex steroid, gonadotropins and prolactin in 79 women with epilepsy, on treatment with PB, CBZ, VPA in monotherapy or in association. Follicular E2 levels were lower than in normal controls, particularly on CBZ treatment. Patients on VPA monotherapy showed significantly increased androgen levels and lower luteal Pg. However, the patients in which VPA was associated to the enzyme-inducing PB, showed normal luteal PG levels.
