Abstract
A case of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and celiac disease (CD) is described. The patient, an 18 months old girl, was hospitalized for an arthritis at her right ankle in the last 6 months, with occasional diarrhea. Immunological tests and duodenal biopsy confirmed CD. The diagnosis of JIA was essentially based on the clinical history of a chronic inflammatory arthritis of unknown origin that begins before the age of 16 and lasts at least 6 weeks, and was supported by osteoarticular ultrasonography and MRI. The case described reinforces the importance of taking into account the possible association of an organ-specific autoimmune disease during JIA.
