Abstract
The effects of epilepsy on thyroid functions is not clearly documented, while the possible endocrine effects of some AEDs, CBZ and OXC in particular, is well known. In this study we evaluated thyroid hormone concentration and antibody assays in patients with epilepsy. Our results suggest a high incidence of autoimmune thyroiditis in epileptic patients, mainly in female, in partial epilepsy and in patients treated with CBZ and OXC.
