Abstract
Aim. This research studies the level of burnout in a group of socio-sanitary workers in some geriatric institutes of the Cuneo area, in order to examinate the association between burnout syndrome and socio-demographic features of the sample and some particular personality traits (state anxiety, trait anxiety, depression). Methods. The sample is composed by 50 socio-sanitary workers; they have been are examined with the Maslach burnout inventory (MBI), the STAI Y1 and the STAI Y2, the Beck depression inventory (BDI) and a socio-demographic data schedule. The statistical analysis is carried-out by the Bravais-Pearson correlation coefficient "r", the Mann-Whitney test, the Kriskall-Wallis and linear regression. Results. The sample studied shows a middle-high burnout (compared to the Italian average values). The socio-demographic variables examined have not been useful for the explanation of burnout, except for the number of children and the labour agreement. High anxiety is generally connected with emotional exhaustion; perhaps, the presence of depressive feelings is linked to a low personal accomplishment. Conclusion. The results essentially confirm what is known from the literature on socio-sanitary workers and on multidimentional aim of burnout, based on individual factors - particular personality traits, and socio-enviromental factors, work organization, type of duties and right of use.
