Abstract

Into this paper we analyze immunological, technical and ethical reasons, limitating the current use of xenotransplants in the daily surgical practice. Use of xenotransplants, as temporary ventricular assistance, as a bridge to orthotopic allotransplant or as permanent heart substitute, seems, in selected cases, the only rational promise of life.
