Abstract
Induction procedures with placebo are useful for the differential diagnosis between epileptic seizures and psychogenic seizures. These procedures are highly sensitive and specific; they are inexpensive, rapid, simple and without risk. We collected 46 patients with psychogenic seizures. We obtained video-EEG recordings of a psychogenic attack, provoked by induction procedures, in 45 patients. Placebo infusion provoked a cardioinibitory syncope in one case. During placebo infusion we recommend EKG monitoring in order to avoid possible risk for the patient.
