The preoperative characteristics of 31 patients with cavernous malformations associated with seizures, who are treated by lesionectomy, and the histological features (perilesional hemosiderin) of the lesion, are examined, by comparing the patients seizure-free after surgical treatment with those who have experienced continued seizures postoperatively. Number and duration of preoperative seizures, associated with hemosiderin staining around the malformation in the removed lesion, resulted significative predictors for the seizure outcome after lesionectomy.
