Abstract

The neurocytoma is a rare Central Nervous System tumor, characterized by cell population with features of neuronal differentiation, ultrastructurally composed of cytoplasm secreting microtubules, specialized synaptic junctions and immunoreactivity for synaptophysin protein. When completely removed, their biological behaviour is benign. The main features of the neurocytoma are: the intraventricular place, the young-adult age and the endocranic hypertension as main presenting clinical picture. In this paper the Authors describe the clinicoradiological and histological characteristics of the central neurocytoma and report surgical management and results in 4 patients, operated on for this rare tumor.
