Abstract

Authors report a series of 587 alumina-alumina THA, implanted between 1977 and 1989, with a minimum follow-up of ten years. The results were: 469 positive (excellent, good and quite good); 118 negative (fair, poor) requiring further surgery. Critical evaluation of these results enabled the authors to recognise the different causes of aseptic loosening of alumina-alumina THA and its indications.
