Abstract
The CSF levels of 5 HIAA before and after treatment with L tryptophan are reported. In all the patients a distinct increase in the content of 5 HIAA in the CSF was found after treatment. During the treatment, 3 patients did not have acute headache, one reported a definite reduction in both frequency and intensity of the attacks, and only one patient did not experience any benefit from treatment. The increase of 5 HIAA after treatment is statistically significant both with respect to the baseline values in the 5 migraine patients and the 2 subjects used as controls.
