Abstract

Mixed cryoglobulinemia is an immune-complex mediated autoimmune disease frequently associated with chronic HCV infection and underlying lymphoproliferation. We examined the clonality and HCV specificity of immunoglobulins in cryoprecipitates from 27 patients with chronic HCV infection. The results indicate that cryoglobulin recognition of viral polypeptides is both polyclonal and multispecific. Moreover, several IgG3 monoclonal bands were identified which may be responsible for cryoprecipitate formation, as recently reported in the literature.
