The authors make some considerations about 469 patients suffering from chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma. They point out: the incidence of cholesteatoma is more frequent in males; symptoms often appear in the first decade of life; hospitalization benefits more people in the fourth decade of life; the main symptom that causes patients to have a medical examination is the aural secretion; the eardrum more frequently presents a perforation on the 'attic' or on the postero-superior quadrant; secondary complications are to be found in about 30%.
