A total of 135 patients, 72 males and 63 females aged 5-74 yr, with chronic pneumopathy were operated upon. The clinical diagnosis was: bronchiectasis, 64 cases; tuberculosis, 41; polycystic lungs and pulmonary cysts, 15; megamycetoma, 6; lung sequestration, 3; and chronic pneumonitis, 6 cases. The following preneoplastic lesions were found: squamous metaplasia, 51 (37%); bronchiectasis, 40 cases; tuberculosis, 7 cases, and polycystic lungs, 4 cases; 9 tumorlets (6.7%), in 6 cases of bronchiectasis 1 in tuberculosis and 2 cases in polycystic lungs. There were 5 cases of carcinoma in situ 4 in bronchiectasies and 1 in chronic bronchitis), and 8 cases of scar carcinoma (2 polycystic lungs, 4 cases of tuberculosis, 1 pulmonary cyst and patient paptient with bronchiectasis).
