Abstract
Drug treatment of depression in patients with epilepsy faces problems, as most antidepressants have convulsive or pro-convulsive effects. Citalopram is a SSRI that has some pharmacological and kinetic properties that would theoretically recommend it in epileptic patients. We report the results of an ongoing study in 16 epileptic patients AEDs treated with mood disorders. Data cumulated so far indicate citalopram therapy does not deteriorate patient's seizure frequency, while leading to a relevant improvement of depressive rating.
