Abstract
A proper treatment of calcaneal fractures requires a complete knowledge of anatomical pathology, surgical experience, and an understanding of all possible complications. The authors report contradictory positions in the literature about the mechanism and pathological anatomy radiographic evaluation and classification systems. This article discusses personal experiences in order to improve preoperative screening using a modern classification. The authors try to solve some of controversies of the calcaneal fractures, to clarify the question of prognostic factors and to guide to surgical planning.
