Abstract

Cefonicid (SK&F D-75073-Z2) in a single daily dose of 0.5 g or 1 g was administered i.m. to 12 patients with infections of the lower respiratory tract. Efficacy and safety were evaluated by means of clinical, radiological and laboratory criteria. The clinical and radiological response was satisfactory in all patients but one, who was suffering from pneumonia due to a strain of Proteus morganii resistant to cefonicid. No significant alterations of the laboratory tests were observed. Pain at the site of injection was reported by eight patients.
