The efficacy of lysozyme by oral route was evaluated in a group of 34 patients with skin diseases due to the herpes simplex virus with different localisations. The duration of the treatment, depending on the clinical evolution, varied from a minimum of 4 to a maximum of 15 days, at the dose of 1.5 g a day (2x250 mg tablets every 8 hr). The results obtained show that lysozyme has an evident therapeutic effect on the forms considered. Besides a more precocious resolution of the clinical picture, a notable decrease of the periodic relapses was observed. The treatment was excellently tolerated both locally and generally.
