Abstract
56 consecutive patients were admitted to the Neurological Institute of Bologna for medically intractable partial seizures and clinically evident facial asymmetry. Facial asymmetry was compared with EEG, radiological and clinical findings. Thirty patients had a lesional epilepsy whereas 26 patients were cryptogenic. In partial epilepsies facial asymmetry suggests an early cerebral insult which may modify the development of one hemisphere.
