Abstract

In view of the importance of the oligominerals in the correct development of the skin and of its annexes, and bearing in mind recent works published on the efficacy of the therapy with sulphate of zinc in alopecia areata, the authors have tried out this treatment in children affected by this disease. The ten patients treated presented all the diffuse forms (total in 3 cases) and the recurring forms of alopecia, that were resistent to all of the usual therapies. ZnSO4 was given in doses of 200 and 600 mg/per day, for a period of time varying from 11/2 mth to 6 mth. The results obtained with this treatment were negative, as in no patient was a significant regrowth to be seen, although the tolerability of the drug was good (only 2 cases had to suspend the treatment because of gastric intolerance).
