Abstract

The patients were randomly divided into two groups; patients in group A (n = 29) received flumazenil i.v. (mean dosage = 0.6 mg) after the endoscopic procedure, patients in group B (n = 30) received placebo. After the administration of the trial drug the level of consciousness improved rapidly in patients of group A; it was already significantly different from group B after 5 minutes (p <0.001) and was maintained at 15, 30 and 60 minutes. Also the d deletion test showed a quicker improvement in psychomotor ability.
