Cluster decay and spontaneous fission of 232Th

Abstract

The cluster decay and spontaneous fission of 232Th are measured with a polyethyleneterephthalate track detectors in the Gran Sasso underground laboratory. The lower limit on the partial half-life for the most probable 26Ne cluster decay is found: T1/2cl > 5 × 1021 yr (a 90% confidence level). Spontaneous fission with partial half-life T1/2sf = (1.2+0.5 -0.3) × 1021 yr is recorded.
