Abstract
In the latest years reports concerning cases of contact allergy to Cocamidopropyl betaine are increasing. More recently researchers have been allowed to identify the impurities that appear to be responsible for episodes of sensitization. In a study we carried out on an allergological, non selected population, six of 570 patients (1,05%) had positive patch test responses to Cocamidopropyl betaine 1%. In our opinion, the data coming from the Italian marketing together with the low incidence of patch test positivity fail to support the notion that products containing Cocamidopropyl betaine are relevant sensitizers in our population.
