Abstract
Coherence analysis was applied to data from a soundmyogram (SMG) and a surface electromyogram (EMG) obtained from a biceps brachii during sustained isometric contraction of the elbow flexors at 20 and 80% of the maximal voluntary contraction (MVC). The coherence was found consistent in the 12-20 Hz and 15-26 Hz bandwidths for the 20 and the 80% MVC, respectively. Results suggest that the motor unit firing pattern information, contained both in the SMG and in the EMG, can be retrieved from the coherence analysis of these two signals.
