Abstract
The collagen distribution was immunohistochemically studied in samples of diseased skin of 5 patients with pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE), with monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies specific for types III, IV, VI and VII collagens. An APAAP technique using these antibodies showed the same distribution of collagen types in diseased skin samples and in normal skin obtained from five healthy control subjects. The only difference was that the type III collagen fibers in lesional skin were more fragmented than in normal skin.
