Translated title of the contribution: Computerized record for epileptic patients

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

We designed a computerized record for epileptic patients aimed to collect data necessary for the diagnoses and the follow-up evaluation in different epileptic syndromes. The base module consists of 8 chapters concerning demographic and physiological anamnestic data, pre-peri and postnatal risk factors, data about seizures and antiepileptic treatment, neurological and psychic exams, and laboratory tests. In the follow-up section it is possible to update the information concerning the phenomenology and the frequency of the seizures, the neurological examination, the neurophysiological and neuroradiological findings. The data entry is organized in a hierarchical way. The software for data analysis allows the computation of the frequency tables, the crosstabulations and the longitudinal evaluation of the information. This program has been applied to 542 patients (204 cases enrolled after a single seizure and 338 newly diagnosed epileptic patients) for a prospective study aimed to verify the applicability of the International Classification of the epilepsies in the early stages and to study the prognosis of the different epileptic syndromes.
