This study confirms, on the basis of our molecular biology results and in accordance with cytogenetic, morphological and ethological data, the specific status of Hapalemur aureus. Furthermore, it appears clearly that Hapalemr simus began its differentiation from Hapalemur griseus griseus and Hapalemur aureus (wich have a common branch) shortly after the separation of Lemur catta from the phylogenetic tree of the L. catta/ Hapalemur group.
