Objectives. To analyze breathing as one of the oral functions and to report a case. Materials And Methods. Biological basis of breathing, its possible alterations and clinical consequences, local and systemic effects of mouth respiration and rapid palatal expansion advantages are described. Results And Conclusions. Breathing may be easily evaluated by experimental techniques and its functional measurement can be considered a very important oral health parameter, together with other functional measures. Rhinomanometry can be considered a very important aid for diagnosis and follow-up especially in those patients with transverse maxillary deficit.
