The authors revise the surgical techniques used in the treatment of facial capillary vascular malformations both flat and tuberous, also taking in consideration the particular problems that critical areas, such as the lip and the eyebrow, can present. They stress that the condition for good results is to use a single reconstructive unit to cover the dysplastic area with tissue of colour and texture equal to the surrounding skin. According to these requirements a substantial advancement has been represented by skin expansion. This technique has enormously enhanced the possibilities of surgical approach to facial lesions, especially to the bigger ones and to the ones located in areas surgically less favourite. The results obtained with this technique widely justify the purpose to profit the possibilities of this method also resorting to skin reexpansion.
