Cytomorphological changes in the aposymbigtic ovary of Blattella germanica L. (blattodea)

Abstract

The ovary of the Blattella germanica L. (Blattodea) females treated with chlortetracycline has been found to be devoid of its normal symbiotic complement. This phenomenon was accompanied by changes in the oocytes, which were particularly apparent in the vitellogenic phase. The total absence of bacteria, both in young and in mature follicles, is viewed in conjunction with the slowed and abnormal process of vitellogenesis, which is followed by sterility.
