Abstract
The authors review the data and knowledge concerning the problem of secondary hormone non responsiveness of advanced prostatic carcinoma after hormone manipulation. They list the mechanisms of this hormone non responsiveness and examine the reasons why the standard chemotherapy is not efficacious as in other solid tumors. The difficulties of administering chemotherapy in patients with hormone escaped prostatic carcinoma are also pointed out (decrease of bone marrow reserve, poor general condition, renal impairment, etc.).
