Determination of CS2 vapours by CP2 passive sampling device

Abstract

Passive samplers to evaluate the solvent vapour concentration in the air are more and more frequent instead of traditional personal samplers. From our experience we decided to employ such samplers, also measuring CS2 vapours. The CP2 samplers that we have studied have been experimented with in a dynamic exposure chamber in which the CS2 concentrations could be calibrated; other experimental conditions can be summarized in such a way: use of different substrates to CS2, CS2 different speeds of exposition of the samplers, different calibrated CS2 concentrations. Data discussed here lead to a definition of the samplers in terms of collection substrate and exposition speed. Two analytical methods are proposed to measure CS2 absorbed: a traditional colorimetric and a gas-chomatographic by ECD. The use of the CP2 samplers in field is the consequence of satisfactory experimental results obtained in the laboratory.
