Starting from a critical analysis of the literature on the subject, the authors present and discuss an original method for the description and evaluation of work postures using appropriate data sheets developed for postures that tend to be fixed and for postures that are mainly variable. The method involves direct observation by the examiner at the workplace. Criteria according to which a tolerability judgement can be made for each posture examined are described and discussed. Lastly, there is a guide for the clinical detection of pathological signs affecting the locomotorium that are most frequently associated with unsuitable work postures.
