Abstract
Sexual arousal is a critical step in women's sexual response cycle and it represents "a bridge" between desire and the genital active state leading to orgasmic platform. Arousal is a mixture of subjective physical and mental feelings of sexual excitement and of objective awareness of non-genital and genital sensations due to vulva-vaginal engorgement and lubrication. The gynaecologist has the task to clearly recognize biological factors and psychorelational aspects involved in the etiology of female sexual arousal disorder in order to establish adequate therapeutic strategies.
