Abstract

Due to the recent epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases, the case of patients taking oral anticoagulants is increasingly frequent. Thus, we often have to perform digestive endoscopy in such patients, and the endoscopist has to critically evaluate the appropriateness of the investigation and the modalities to perform it safely. According to the ISO 9000 rules, any certified activity has to be accurately defined with written procedures. This has been done for the various activities of our Unit of Digestive Endoscopy in the first phase of certification. The presence of written, well-defined procedures warrants the necessity that they are accurate and up-to-date. In our case the procedure has been modified, in a second phase, implementing the existing rules of evidence-based-medicine through the work of a multidisciplinar panel.
