Abstract

Doppler sonography has developed recently but few reports are available in the paediatric age. The present report concerns personal experience in 15 children (24 renal units) aged from 15 days to 11 years (average age: 5.9 years). Kidneys were classified into two groups: 12 normal and 12 affected by different diseases. In all cases, reliable values of Resistive Index (RI) were calculated. The average RI of the normal units was 0.64 (range 0.60-0.74) while the average RI in the pathological cases was 0.71 (range 0.61-0.80). The reliability of the duplex doppler of kidneys is demonstrated also in children and the possible clinical application is discussed.
