Effect of γ hydroxybutyrate on the formation of cyclic AMP in the rat striatum

Abstract

The effect of γ butyrolactone (GBL) administration on dopamine sensitive adenylate cyclase and on concentrations of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in striatum of rats was investigated. Animals treated with GBL show an increase of the 'in vitro' activity of striatal dopamine sensitive adenylate cyclase. On the other hand, striatal concentrations of cAMP are not significantly modified by GBL treatment. These findings are discussed in relationship to the depressant action of the drug on CNS.
