Effect of age on β-adrenergic receptors on cerebral microvessels

Abstract

The responsiveness of β-adrenergic receptors in cerebral microvessels was studied in aged rats by measuring cAMP formation induced by norepinephrine and [125I]iodohydroxybenzylpindolol binding. The density of β-receptor sites is reduced by aging in the rat cerebral microvessels. These results suggest that the changes in brain circulation during aging may be at least partially due to a reduction of the β-adrenergic control of cerebral microvessels.
