Effect of CCl4 on mitochondrial oxidation and ATP levels in rat liver

Abstract

In this investigation the effect of CCl4, both in the presence and in the absence of inhibitors, on the respiration of isolated mitochondria as well as on the activity of mitochondrial enzymes has been studied. The results show that CCl4 at relatively low concentrations causes an inhibition in vitro of respiration of isolated rat liver mitochondria which is due to direct inhibition of glutamate-dehydrogenase and succinate chytocrome c-reductase.
